While traveling everything changes constantly. Passing through a variety of landscapes, visiting lots of cities and sleeping in different beds. With every meal you have to decide what or where you want to eat. Settling for fast food based on availability and convenience is an easy choice to make. Going down this path once or twice is acceptable, but after a few days the craving for a healthy home cooked meal takes over. Or at least that’s how it works for us.
So when working on another photography project in the US we decided to resist these temptations and take on the challenge of maintaining a healthy diet while being on the road. Creating home cooked meals conquering the limitations that accompany being away from home. Only motel supplied microwaves, fridges and the public barbecue helped us prepare nutritious balanced dishes.
We kept it simple with fresh, raw, preserved and little preparation needing ingredients. A high quality though realistic combination of local produce with readily available super market supplies. No haute cuisine, but cooked with the same care as we would do at home. A lovely and obvious challenge shot in the rural southern states.
About simm + huis
We are Jordi Huisman and Joske Simmelink, a photography duo from Amsterdam. We live for photography and we make a living from photography, in that order. Our love for the still image captured on film or sensor is an inspiring drive. It leads us traveling to beautiful countries, lets us grab the bike and visit a gallery in the city or serves as a pleasant pastime browsing through newspapers and magazines during a nice cup of coffee on a Sunday morning.
